Matter Matters - Books for Investigating the States of Matter
Help me give my students the book "Solids, Liquids, Gases, and Plasma" to help them learn about the states of matter through engaging reading and hands-on activities.
My second graders embody the Aloha spirit. They are loving, compassionate, full of gratitude, and care deeply for our Earth. They like to move, sing, build, and stretch out on the floor with a good book.
My students learn best when they are able to physically connect to our studies through hands-on experiences.
We live in a diverse rural community on the Big Island of Hawaii. Our community is tight-knit, but it is isolated. As a result, we have limited resources. My students are too young to feel the limitations yet, and I'd like to keep it that way. I work hard to ensure that every child in my room has just what he/she needs to feel secure and be successful in school.
My Project
In 2nd grade, we get to learn about the states of matter. We don't have a science text book, so I am constantly looking for grade-level appropriate, engaging books to connect our science investigations and literacy development. This book fits the bill!
Written by an author/illustrator team my students already know and love, "Solids, Liquids, Gases and Plasma" is a great way to bring the states of matter to life through reading.
This book is full of scientific information and activities we can do with basic classroom supplies. Students will read carefully through the text, trying each activity and rereading to really understand concepts like molecules, the states of matter, and density. We will refer back to this text as we further explore the states of matter in our science investigations. "Solids, Liquids, Gases, and Plasma" will make reading and science fun for my students!
