My Students

My job rocks! I get the pleasure of going to work every day and seeing 40 second and third graders excited about learning. You read that right, second AND third graders. I have the unique position of teaching two grade levels at one time.

This is a new position to me, but with no additional supplies.

My students are like family and willing to work and learn. My school and students do have their challenges considering we are in a poverty stricken neighborhood. More than half of my school receives free/reduced lunch.

My Project

My students love playing games. They enjoy working in groups and the games and activities I am requesting will encourage them to work on math in their favorite manner. My students need Hot Dot Quiz cards, Place Value cubes, Number mats, and games for centers and small group instruction. I encourage all my students to think outside the box. In addition to making math exciting these games will introduce them to real world problems that require them to think.

The math games purchased with funds from this grant will allow my students to view math in a completely different way and interest them in using the skills that they learned in class in a non-threatening, engaging way.

In addition, it will alleviate some of the stresses of practicing math facts at home. Understanding how math is used and why it is important in their lives, gives the students a purpose for learning it. With a purpose they can learn anything they put their minds to!
