Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from very distinct homes. My students live in a farming community and we are a school with limited resources. Along with the school, our community is also very limited on resources, nearly half the population live below the poverty line. I have students who do not have access to internet at home, students who live at camps, and students that are in single parent or guardian homes. Majority of my students English Learners.
In 2018 despite our challenges, we were named a School-To-Watch.
Being able to teach in the community I grew up in gives me a great insight to what the students face everyday inside and outside of school.
My Project
The pencil sharpener, pencils, and graph paper will help my students have the necessary materials to succeed in school. They will be able to be part of the class by taking their notes as well as being able to complete their work. Having a pencil will help them succeed not only in my class, but also in other classes. All my students should be given the opportunity to display their creativity in mathematics in vivid colors.
Flip art pads, paint, brushes, markers, and laptop stand will help my students present in the classroom. These materials will help students strengthen their visual learning. Students will be able to present their knowledge whether it is on a poster or on a presentation. Mathematics is a complicated subject allowing students to show off their work along with their understanding will strengthen their learning.
