My Students

My students have a thirst for technology in math. They are juniors and seniors enrolled in Geometry and Algebra 2. I would like my students to stay connected and keep up with technology. Our old computers often freeze or crash, disrupting lessons that were planned to include instructional software.

Our school is in a high need neighborhood in New York.

These students are nearing their college careers and I want to ensure that they are sent off to college prepared and experienced with mathematics and technology. I want them to be exposed to today's ever-changing technology and master an understanding of mathematical concepts that may be difficult to grasp without the aid of simulated models and software such as Geometer's Sketchpad. A laptop and other basic supplies would make these aids accessible to my students.

My Project

I am requesting a Dell laptop to better illustrate concepts in Geometry and Algebra 2. With this laptop, I can expose students to software and resources via the Internet. Difficult topics will come to life, such as three dimensional geometry. This technology will help to develop and refine students' spacial awareness and reasoning. Students will also heighten their understanding and use of graphing calculators, a skill that they will continue to need in higher level math as well. Students can see more clearly the functions of the graphing calculator with the aid of a virtual simulator. Some students have purchased graphing calculators, but many of them now need new batteries. These supplies will enrich lessons with heartier problem solving that could not take place with pen and paper alone. These resources will not only impact my students in high school , but will also impart them with knowledge and memorable activities that will resonate with them through college math courses.

Donations to this project will change my students' lives, engage them in mathematics, and shape their future college and career choices.

They will keep up with advances in technology and will be exposed to levels of math that will make them competitive in professional endeavors.
