My Project
There is always music playing in my classroom. It gives us cadence and cues for our learning and helps students to tune out surrounding noise that can cause distraction in a portable classroom. Unfortunately, we have been using an older set of hand me down speakers and have worn them out hard. Given the volume of our HVAC system alone, it's time to upgrade to a sound system appropriate for the size of the room.
In my classroom, it's about teaching with music more than listening to music.
Several of my activities require timed writing, or otherwise yield times for students to work and for students to listen. Having beats that students can control not only gives them agency over their learning, but provides positive reinforcement and association with math.
