My Students

I teach Algebra 1 and Geometry at a high school level. There is a large gap in the ability levels of the students, primarily in Algebra 1. There are a handful of students who remember and understand most of the concepts from when they originally learned it in middle school while many others are missing basic arithmetic skills, which makes it very difficult for them to engage in the lessons. The higher students are often bored at the slow rate the content is moving while the majority of students don’t engage in the lessons due to lack of prerequisite knowledge. I want to help find new ways to differentiate the content and engage students in class.

My Project

During the entire school year, I have my students sit in groups of four. This allows me to easily create group activities and easily implement stations that allow me to differentiate my teaching. My plan is to use these cards when doing station activities that work on improving students understanding of quadratic functions. I will have some students work on specified class assignments, some work on Desmos, an online graphing tool, and have some work on this card game. This will hopefully give me ample opportunities to walk around the room and clearly check for understanding which will allow me to further differentiate instruction/
