it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our 5th grade ICT classroom has 23 students with a substantial amount of students receiving special education services. I also teach 23 additional students math every day. They are a part of the Lower East Side community, one which is vibrant and diverse. Many of our students speak Spanish and come from immigrant families. The majority of our students are living in poverty and especially need access to technology and quality resources to be successful in school and beyond.
They are curious and excited learners!

My Project
Our class needs resources in three areas. One way is that we need fact building fluency resources for math. Many of our fifth graders still struggle with their basic facts, so we need interactive flashcards that emphasis fact families (the connection between addition and subtraction and that of multiplication and division). Place value charts will help students interact with the understanding that everything is built on the relationship of 10.
We need resources to build of our love of series books!
Many of our students love HiLo, Dragon Masters, and Cleopatra in Space! We want to encourage their love of series by keeping them going with those titles they love.
Lastly, we need a few resources to help keep us organized (crates to store books in the closet), charts for small groups, and study carrels to help us stay focused on our work. These organizational resources help our students be more successful and comfortable in school!
