My students need calculators for the math center, a lot of visual supports which the projector will provide, math software and other engaging basic tools.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine preparing a meal without the ingredients or trying to write without a pencil. In 2011, there are tools we expect to come standard in the classroom, however my students often do not have enough tools to make math both engaging and meaningful. You can help our 2nd grade class succeed in math.
My students are both amazing and diverse.
They have very unique learning needs due to disabilities, poverty, and lack of resources. They attend an inner city public elementary school in New York. Most of them live below the poverty level and are dependent upon school to nourish both their bodies and minds. My students require a lot of motivation and encouragement. I have seen what they can do when they are motivated to learn. When they are given modern tools that they can be interactive with, they rise to the occasion of learning. Since there have been so many cuts to funding in education here, teachers have to be creative in finding tools and resources to support student learning. Particularly in the area of math, my students have struggled to stay focused and share what few hands-on tools and technology we had.
My Project
My students need hands-on and visual math tools that will allow them to practice math operations in the activities of our school curriculum. Our students' lives as both mathematicians and learners will change dramatically with the support of the new tools. The students will have a new outlook on learning. The new materials will help my students learn new math concepts faster and enjoy practicing and becoming fluent in their math skills.
Using a projector will allow for students to have a larger view of the models being taught and will support them visually. Additionally, my students will be able to use these hands-on tools(to manipulate) for telling time and problem solving. Gaining these math materials will help me increase my student’s interest and understanding of math.
This year technology grad students came to work with my students.
The children had a chance to use laptop to learn multiplication. Their eyes would light up once a week when the grads would come in the classroom. One child asked, "Can we always learn like this?" I reflected that as a teacher we have to do our best, while never failing to try to give our students more. This project is important because it will allow my students to learn the way they learn best and remove many obstacles.
