Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like when you discovered the meaning of 2?
My first grade students are attending a public school in Colorado.
The majority of my students are Hispanic and African American coming from a lower socio-economic status. Many of my students are English Language Learners. My students are a mix of at grade level or below grade level. The students are excited about learning and practicing their math skills.
My Project
This project will greatly impact my students' learning during our math block. During our math block I meet with a small guided math groups for 20 minutes. During this time the students are independently working on their math workbook pages or playing simple math games. Since, I am working with a small group the rest of the students must be able to work independently.
I want to create math stations that are meaningful and allow the students to stay engaged and on task while I am teaching. Students will be able to work on the essential components of math such as building their number sense. Students will also be able to practice essential mathematical skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. . These stations will be engaging and interactive for the students to practice these skills. Not only do I want my students to mastery these essential skills but I want inspire my students to gain a long lasting love for mathematics.
Since my classroom is a high-poverty classroom,I have strict limits on the supplies that I am given.I am first year teacher and I am still trying to build my resources.
With your help you will help me build a strong mathematical foundation. I hope to inspire my students to love math and give them the tools to become the best mathematicians they can be.
