This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are second graders living in the projects of New York City. A day in the life of my ICT students involves them teaching each other and working together. As their teacher, I want to do my very best to make their year in second grade their most successful yet.
They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and mostly Spanish speaking or bilingual homes.
They come to school eager to learn and explore new things each and every day. Having different tools to use will help them become even more successful!
My Project
My students need help in math! Having a variety of materials and supplies will help them explore the variety of math concepts. I am requesting math centers, puzzles, and hands-on learning kits for my students to use independently during our daily math block.
To meet the needs of my all of my second graders who have a large range of abilities, we rotate in small groups.
I am able to differentiate my students' instruction and meet their needs. However, when they are not working with me, they are independently working on worksheets or math games that I have created. I am requesting ready-made centers such as the place value and operations activity stations to keep my students engaged. These hands-on centers will allow my students to work together at their independent level and check their work with the answer keys. This would help improve my students' math abilities!
