Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a very energetic and lively group of 7 and 8 year old children in the Bronx. My students love learning about new topics that interest and excite them. My goal is to be able to find new and exciting ways to get my students motivated to become better mathematicians. Giving options for math is essential for differentiated learning. They are curious, inquisitive and love coming to school each day. They live in an area in the Bronx that has a lot of poverty and most students receive free or reduced lunch. But despite these circumstances, they come to school with a good attitude everyday and crave new and fun ways to learn. I am always looking for new ways to engage them and motivate them to improve, especially in math. Students in our school are mostly English language learners and require many different resources and aids to help them reach their goals.
My Project
If my students and I receive these resources, they will be thrilled to be able to put them to good use in our math area. We will use them to rotate through math learning centers to help the children reach their individual learning goals. The students will use these materials to help them meet the goals of the rigorous common core curriculum. They will use these materials so show how they are progressing towards meeting their math goals.
They will learn about place value, money, time, geometry and problem solving skills, all with a big smile on their face. This project will make a huge difference in my classroom because it will provide my students with learning that is hands on and more engaging.
This project will make a huge difference in my classroom because it will provide my students with learning that is hands on and more engaging. Math becomes more attainable when it is hands on and these materials will provide those experiences for my students.
My students will most likely participate more and be more of an active learner when challenging topics become more attainable and fun through the use of these learning games and tools.
