Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Math is an abstract concept when only explained with teacher instruction. This can be tricky for little ones to understand. Math does not need to be tricky or boring. I want want students to love math! This is where manipulatives and visuals such as the base 10 blocks or the number of the day chart come into play. Incorporating manipulatives and visuals into the lesson allows students to use physical objects to illustrate and discover mathematical concepts.

Manipulatives give students the opportunity to experience math in a more concrete, hands-on way.

My students like to learn through hands on learning. It’s fun for them! Manipulatives such as the jumbo ten frames, the jumbo money and the 3-D geometric shapes are exciting for students. My students feel like they are playing when in fact they are learning! They can explore, problem solve and use critical thinking on their own or in small group. These tools will definitely grab the attention of my students and make them fall in love with math!
