Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are full of energy and curiosity! They are five and six-year-olds who come to school excited to learn. I try to make learning fun and engaging as they learn through play. For some of my students, kindergarten is their first school experience which means that they come with different skills and abilities.
I believe that every child can learn at their own developmental pace.
My goal as their teacher is to provide engaging and challenging learning experiences in a positive and safe environment.
My Project
I'm requesting base ten blocks smart packs for at home learning. My students will have hands-on manipulatives that will help them learn basic mathematical concepts including addition, subtraction, number sense, place value and counting.
Physically manipulating objects is important in learning basic mathematic concepts, especially at the early stages of cognitive development.
They will use the base ten blocks in different ways to express numbers and patterns. They will learn about units (ones place), rods (tens place), flats (hundreds place).
I will be able to model which will reinforce these math concepts.
