Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school every day full of excitement to be in an environment with peers and adults who love them. Over 50% of my students are English language learners and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. Since the neighborhood is high poverty, many of the students don't have the chance to interact with technology. When students enter the classroom, it's essential they are provided with the tools to succeed that they may not be provided with outside of school.
My Project
My students participate in math centers every day. I am always looking for ways to keep them engaged and practicing a variety of concepts to achieve mastery of skills. Students prove to be far more successful with high interest activities such as flash cards and manipulatices, rather than paper to pencil tasks.
Calendar time is a great opportunity to discuss math concepts in a way that feels applicable to real life.
Having a calendar math chart will allow students to practice Number sense concepts daily with a predictable structure. My students need to gain fluency in the foundations of math in order to succeed in years to come!
