Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Bill Bradley says, "Respect your fellow human being, treat them fairly, disagree with them honestly, enjoy their friendship, explore your thoughts about one another candidly, work together for a common goal & help one another achieve it". This quote defines cooperative groups in our math class.

Our school is a school with over 95% of the student population that are living at the poverty level.

Our students do NOT let this define them. Instead, they use this label to DRIVE them. They are hard-working, intelligent children who WANT to succeed and are willing to do whatever it takes to do so! Many of our students don't receive support from home and lack the technological tools that many of us take for granted; however, they are quick learners and have figured out how to maneuver their way around computers, iPods and even Nooks. These tools are preparing them for the future and getting them ready to become the successful adults that I believe they can be.

My Project

With the purchase of these items, our Bully - Free Zone in our math class will be enhanced tremendously. Students will have access to a NOOK and be able to download books to reinforce learned math skills. They can also work collaboratively to read, share and discuss new information found in the selected books and activity games. My goal is to teach how working together benefits them individually. By understanding this at an early age, my students are sure to gain life skills that will bring them future successes.

Staying current in terms of technology is a challenge for all teachers.

In addition to limited technology, the lack of time also presents major challenges. This project will enhance our available technology & allow me to integrate reading skills, as well as character education skills. I believe in my students & realize the potential they possess. I am certain that this project will have a tremendous impact on their social and academic achievement. Help us bring this project to life. Thank you!
