Help me give my students a document camera and math materials for the opportunity to see and manipulate numbers to increase their confidence and math skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
On March 13 we were told we would be out of the classroom for three weeks. We quickly packed up and sent the kids home with limited supplies thinking we were on an extended spring break. None of us expected that that would be our last day with our students for this school year.
We all needed to adjust quickly to new online formats and and learning.
All of my students are learning from home using either home computers or district provided computers. I am at home using a school computer and my cell phone to help me teach the kids while they are at home.
Everyday I look for new ways to keep the learning interesting and meaningful to my students. No one had planned for this but I am encouraged everyday when I see their smiling faces excited to learn.
My Project
I am teaching from home and my students are struggling with math concepts. I chose these items because they are big, bright and can be easily seen and manipulated. I need to teach with as many visuals as possible to allow the students the ability to see it and feel confident with their answers. These items will also be a great addition to my classroom when we are able to return because each student will be able to use them daily.
I know that distance learning has been a rough adjustment for many people.
Kids are struggling being away from friends and teachers and their normal routines. Teaching primary classes online need to be fun and engaging or they lose interest quickly. I feel these math items will help to keep them engaged and interested.
