Mathematicians Building Their Toolkit

My students need calculators to support their math learning and glue sticks to maintain their interactive notebooks.

My Students

In our middle school mathematics center, we are working to create a student centered learning environment personalized to meet the needs of all students. Students are excited to learn about math, especially as it can be applied through projects and connected to their lives.

I teach at an urban public school serving 1000 students in grades 6-12, many who are from bilingual households and receive free breakfast and lunch.

We have an emphasis on using technology to prepare 21st century scholars.

My Project

Many of the students in our mathematics class have not yet mastered the computational skills needed to do middle school math. Calculators assist with some of these challenging calculations. This support is especially useful for students with disabilities. Additionally, we need glue sticks to maintain our interactive notebooks which serve as self-created "mini-textbooks." It is vital that students can maintain a record of their learning as we build on concepts throughout the school year.

Calculators will support students in accessing rigorous grade level content while they continue reviewing key skills.
