This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in Southwest Detroit at a multicultural school full of students who come to our classroom every day full of energy, enthusiasm, love, and excitement to learn! They are critical thinkers who are always striving to gain more knowledge.
Unfortunately, these students come from an area that provides daily challenges in their lives.
Many of my students are lacking the background knowledge and materials to succeed but not the drive and want to. They never cease to amaze me!
My Project
This year Math has been a struggle for my students. The concepts they are learning are a lot more difficult and 90% of my students are ESL learners. That means that they struggle with just the use of the directive part of learning.
The manipulatives help them to visualize concepts like regrouping, time, and money and would better promote the experience part of learning.
Many of them come from households of parents who are unable to provide them with the extra when it comes to learning the Math concepts in 2nd grade. These tools will help to build better understanding.
