My Students
My school's goal is to reach and engage all learners through personalizing their learning and building strong relationships. We try to stress the importance of relevant math learning through projects, equity-focused themes and adhering to the whole child in our classrooms. Our student population is extremely ethnically and racially diverse, with a majority of Latinx students. Almost half of our student population quality for free and reduced price lunch. As such, we strive to make our math curriculum meaningful and relevant to our young people!
My Project
What better way to learn about 2 and 3 dimensional mathematical relationships than with virtual reality? Since distance learning, more students are using computers to learn about mathematical relationships, but it's time for us to take the next step. Rather than watching videos on how objects are thrown in the air to show quadratic relationships, why not integrate the physics as well? Rather than just use simulations on google apps on school-issued Chromebooks, why not actually give students the ability to build and analyze structures using virtual reality? Virtual reality headsets are weatherproof, and can make math learning up-to-date, engaging, and rigorous. Sometimes, it's challenging for us to do work outside due to weather or access. With VR, students can analyze each others' work that they create and critique. Our students' creativity is ready for up-to-date technology.
