This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds and many don't have the materials needed to aid in their learning. Despite the many obstacles they face everyday, they show up to school eager to learn. Many of my students come from less than ideal home situations. Many of my students are considered low income and yet they still manage to have a positive outlook about school. I feel like my classroom gives them a happy, safe place. That is something they lack in their everyday lives.
My Project
In today's world, it is so important to have a strong mathematical mindset and number sense. These various books and games will allow my students to unleash their potential through creative math, inspiring messages, and innovative teaching. This growth mindset approach lets students see math as a broad landscape of unexplored puzzles instead of fixed methods.
Literacy and play are keys to success in math that often get overlooked.
Visualizing, playing, and investigating pave the way for open student thinking, for powerful brain connections, for engagement, and for deep understanding. Adding these books, games, and resources to my classroom library and stations will increase my student's knowledge of numerous math concepts.
