Math Wizards

My students need different manipulatives to count with for math. These items can also be used to sort and to practice fine motor skills.

My Students

I have the honor of teaching an eccentric set of special education students. As a class they are eager to learn and enjoy working towards their education.

They all have their own range of abilities, and supports that they need to be successful.

As their teacher, I am consistently striving to provide them with new and improved ways to learn concepts and skills. They enjoy hands-on activities where they can be creative and showcase their own set of skills and personalities.

My Project

In my classroom, we work a lot on fine motor skills and building up the muscles in our hands. This in turn helps them to begin to write. They can sort, put these objects in specified containers and categorize them by color and shape. These objects can also be used to count. Many of my students struggle with counting objects with one to one correspondence.

Their little hands move much faster then their minds.

They count must fast then they can move their hands. We are constantly looking for new and exciting objects to count since we do this repetitively. These items are different so they will bring some new excitement to our classroom.

An object such as the mini muffin match up helps them count and use fine motor skills. They will be able to match objects to specified numbers using tongs to move objects. The animal counters can help my students sort into different categories, such as color, or type of animal. The interlocking blocks can be used to build letter/numbers, help with counting, and sorting. The pattern blocks and boards will teach my students to use their visual skills to build objects and patterns that are the same.

Each one of the items can and will serve its own purpose within my classroom and will help my students build on their skills so that they can become more successful!
