My Students
I am fortunate to have students of all abilities in my classroom, from LD to low ability to gifted. Each of them has their own special needs and come from various socioeconomic backgrounds. The students that I teach for math tend to be afraid of math, so they lack comfort and confidence. Multiple strategies and opportunities for practice in novel ways are must haves in my classroom.
In math, all students deserve the opportunity to accumulate the strategies and skills to promote a higher level of understanding and mastery.
My Project
By attending the conference I will learn strategies to help the math students to strengthen their number sense and learn tools for understanding and modeling math problems. The strategies will include modeling and games, that reinforce various math concepts. This engaging learning will be hands on, which will enable me to experience the activities and determine what will be helpful for various levels of students. There are low students who need reinforcement and higher learners that need a challenge as well as those who are average. This conference will provide invaluable resources that I can bring back for the 2018/19 school year.
