My Students
I am a first-year mathematics teacher teaching Algebra I and Discrete Mathematics. My students range from those who once detested math to those who adore the problem-solving process. Overall, my students are bursting with personality and are eager, enthusiastic learners. Although math has not been their favorite subject in the past, they are learning to appreciate the beauty of mathematics and strive to understand it more fruitfully.
Problem-solving and conceptual understanding are what I believe to be most important in the classroom in order to combat students' misunderstandings of what true mathematics is really about.
My hope is for students to see mathematics as a creative subject and guide them into becoming critical thinkers.
My Project
These materials will allow me to make quality math videos to support and enhance my students' understanding of mathematics. Despite the plethora of videos on the internet for a variety of mathematical concepts, the videos that I create will be more centered around the methods that are taught in my classroom which may be unconventional at times, but effective. Students will be able to hear concepts explained as I have in class and see it done in real time as well through my iPad. The microphone will allow me speak freely without having to worry about the sound of my stylus being the dominant sound in my recordings. I am hoping students can use my videos as a resource to complete their homework assignments, refresh their memories on old concepts or just reinforce their understanding of past lessons.
