This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When students are able to work on non-permanent surfaces (i.e. whiteboards) with enough space to spread out thinking, studies have shown more success in mathematical thinking. Students take less time to start talking about a problem (working in groups). They took less time to make their first mathematical notation. They also were willing to keep working without the teacher needing to encourage them to keep going. I am trying to teach thinking in my classroom, not just content. They must know content, but I don't want them to do content without thinking. The ability to have more non-permanent workspace around the room is important for this to happen. This is why I would love more whiteboards in the classroom.
