This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a low income, culturally diverse high school within San Diego Unified school district. Our families are ethnically diverse with a large proportion of refugee families, second language and multi-cultural learners. As a Title I school, all students receive a free lunch.

Our Special Education Mod-Severe program is comprised of fifty 9th-12th grade students with moderate to severe disabilities ranging from Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, Orthopedic Impairment, Visual and Deaf and Hard of Hearing concerns.

All have experienced significant intellectual, language and social skills delays and have Individual Education Plans.

All students come to school eager to learn! Families are trying to keep students engaged even during his difficult time. Their eagerness to learn fuels my desire to provide a quality learning environment for all my students.

My Project

I am excited to build a program that reflects the needs of our students as they prepare to transition to their post-secondary programs and the world of work! We would love to have a curriculum that encourages independent life skills!

In my functional math skills classroom students learn and develop functional math skills as they transition to young adulthood.

We learn critical life skills, money handling, vocational skills, decision making, independent living skills and more.

Materials requested will be used both in the classroom and to provide home learning materials to students during this difficult distance learning time. My moderate/severe special education high school students need hands on tools to comprehend and master functional math skills to help them be successful and independent in life!
