My Students

I am a first grade teacher in a low-income, high poverty school. Although my students have faced obstacles, they are always eager to learn, and enjoy hands on activities.

I enjoy implementing new engagement strategies and materials to challenge my students and make their learning meaningful.

I strive to provide my students with a safe and loving atmosphere where they are willing to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them. I encourage my students to dream, believe, and achieve.

My Project

My students benefit from having concrete objects they can hold and manipulate to strengthen and deepen their understanding. When students are engaged in their learning process, they develop a love and interest in math.

It is vital to incorporate the use of concrete manipulatives in my classroom in order for students to develop proficiency with the Standards of Mathematical Practices.

My students will be able to model their thinking with the Base Ten Blocks and Connecting Cubes, which will later enable them to think about math more abstractly. By providing my students these tools, they will also build their fine motor skills.
