Math Tools and Bags for Distance Learning From Home
Help me give my students protractors and patty paper for their geometry unit and bags to place the materials they will be using for the work during distant learning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have been home since March 17. They have been working from their homes using their own devices or devices that I was able to loan them before they were let go. Currently, they are working with the materials they took home and materials that I photocopied and mailed to their homes. My seventh and eighth graders are typical. They are motivated by rewards, novel items, and food!
My students are trying as best as they can to be as normal as possible given the circumstances.
The closure of our school does not help close the gap between low- and high-income students.
My Project
We just started our geometry unit. Students are being asked to use protractor and patty paper to measure angles. I did not anticipate that on time. My students don't have those materials in their homes. I decided to change up the unit for a couple of weeks until I get the materials they needed. My hope is that this project will be funded quickly so they can have the tools necessary to be successful as they are home learning during the coronavirus pandemic.
My students and I are engaging in teaching and learning, like many teachers are, using video platforms.
They share our screens to demonstrate what they are doing.
In order to provide them with the resources from a previous project that was recently funded as well as these resources, I am asking for reusable bags. Their goodies will be packaged and delivered allowing them to see how invested we are in their success.
