Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I had traditional desks in my classroom for years, which served me well. Kids still socialized and knew their classmates. Since cell phones and COVID-19, the classroom environment has changed. When kids have downtime, they would rather sit on their phones and be okay without human interaction and socialization.

With my new alternative seating, I would provide seating that would allow the students to sit in pairs, groups, and, if need be, some singles while doing their math.

This new seating will provide many positive benefits.

First, the students would be sitting with one or more people, which would provide an opportunity for them to get to know others in the class. I move seats around often, so hopefully, they will have an opportunity to sit with everyone in the class throughout the year.

Secondly, group seating would allow me to sit students who need extra help together so I can work with them more closely rather than running all over the room trying to help individuals.

Last of all, the new seating arrangements will help students learn to be more mature when sitting with other people. I hope they will improve their social skills as well, all while learning math.
