My Students

I'm a math interventionist, and I work with about 50 to 60 students per day in a small group setting both in the classroom and pullout groups. My students struggle with math concepts and come to me for remediation and on-level support.

I don't have a curriculum to follow, so I have to be creative when designing lessons that the kids will enjoy.

Games provide a fun, upbeat way to keep my kids engaged.

My students attend a school that is located in an economically challenging area. Students from this area have varying academic, social, and economic needs. Each child receives free breakfast and lunch, and many go home with snack bags over the weekends. However, most of my kids are eager to learn and try very hard, which is why I want to give them the very best learning experience every time we meet.

My Project

Making learning fun is paramount to all teachers. Finding creative ways to do that isn't always easy. Games are great to use whole group, in small groups, or one-on-one. They're also a wonderful tool to pull out on the rare occasions that you have some time left over.

Games are an excellent informal assessment tool that provides another way to see what my kids are thinking and where they may be making mistakes without using another worksheet or written test.

They're a way to get kids talking about math in small groups or one-on-one. Whether they get it right or wrong, I love being able to discuss a problem together to see how many ways we can solve it. Games are another way to help kids enjoy math without them even knowing they're learning.
