Making learning fun is paramount to all teachers. Finding creative ways to do that isn't always easy. Games are great to use whole group, in small groups, or one-on-one. They're also a wonderful tool to pull out on the rare occasions that you have some time left over. Games are an excellent informal assessment tool that provides another way to see what my kids are thinking and where they may be making mistakes without using another worksheet or written test. They're a way to get kids talking about math in small groups or one-on-one. Whether they get it right or wrong, I love being able to discuss a problem together to see how many ways we can solve it. Games are another way to help kids enjoy math without them even knowing they're learning.
