This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from very culturally diverse backgrounds. We are constantly receiving students who are entering the country for the first time with little to no English. Students from Dominican Republic, Columbia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Afganistán, Iran, and Syria, just to name a few. Other than students entering with very little knowledge of the English language, we also service students who are of low income communities, who at times, do not have enough resources available to them in order to compete academically. Although many of our students have their unique struggles, I love that they can come in and smile through their adversity. We, as teachers, try to provide them with a safe environment, where they can embrace their cultures and look beyond their economic struggles, at least while they are in our classrooms.

My Project

Here at our school we are trying to create engaging lessons using technology. Every department is moving towards that direction. With the materials, our students will have access to in-class technology that will allow them to, not only excel, but to make connections between technology and mathematics. Using Google classroom, students will be able to access a further online resources, that otherwise they would not have, because of lack of access to internet and technology at home. Our school is know for it’s culturally diverse students. Because students who enter our classroom do not all speak English, daily use of the iPad will allow the students and I to communicate and bridge the language gap.
