Math Table Talk

My Students

My students are comprised of 5th and 6th graders. These students are part of a "middle school" model, where students rotate to different teachers for core classes and electives.

I teach math this year, and I have seen how COVID-19 has impacted these students.

Students are behind, and we are trying to catch them up. Students are struggling socially and emotionally. COVID-19 has taken a toll on us all. I am trying to build connections with my students to help them be successful during these hard times.

My Project

My goal is to help these kids be successful in math. With our middle school model, we have placed students in ability-grouped classes. I often pull out small groups to help with understanding basic math concepts. This table would help my students by providing a place I can work with students, and have them practice the concepts we are learning. Part of understanding is practicing and getting feedback. I am able to help individual students when I work in small groups, and I am able to provide the feedback they need for understanding.
