Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I've always loved math. My math teachers explained new concepts and introduced new ideas made me realize that math is fun! Today, I try to get my students to come to that same realization. Math is great! And it's nothing to be afraid of.

I am constantly coming up with ways to make my kids see how fun and easy math is.

Every beginning of the school year, I get students who come in saying they hate math or that it's their least favorite subject. But just a couple of weeks into the year, their perceptions change. Fun stations, engaging activities, and plenty of opportunities to work with their peers contribute to their increased love of math.

About 85% of our students are low-income, first-generation Hispanics born in the U.S.

I hope to continue to find new and exciting ways to make learning fun for my kids.

My Project

These items will help my students with everyday classroom needs.

We always run out of dry-erase markers, so this supply of quality will last a good while.

They are always also asking for erasers to wipe off their whiteboards after each use, and it's not practical to keep using Kleenex to do so. We struggle with sharpening pencils during class, so these mechanical pencils will help us minimize the time being spent on sharpening pencils, and they also help students keep their work neat and legible (since I have many students that continue to use their pencil even after it needs a good sharpening).

We do stations in class daily, so the giant classroom timer will help students see how much more time they have left in their current station and adjust their pace accordingly. Station time is precious, and the magnetic folder bins will help keep their station work handy and organized while saving time when getting back the work they've started.

The stickers will help me reward students in the classroom and motivate them to show me good math work, and the photo cases will help me keep the task cards in our room a pleasant and clean environment to work in.
