My Students

"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders." - Dean Kamen, Founder of FIRST Robotics

I am working with a diverse group of students attending two schools in an urban district.

An overwhelming number of students are eligible for free/reduced lunch. In addition to working with English Language Learners, I also work with 4th and 5th grade students, supporting Math and Technology programs at the school.

My Project

I recently participated in a robotics training program for teachers to integrate robots into the curriculum. To facilitate the launch of a robotics program, my students need a Lego Mindstorms kit to begin learning the principles of robotics, while working as part of a collaborative team. Robotics in Elementary School? ABSOLUTELY! By starting a robotics program at my school, students will be more engaged and motivated to learn. But a robotics program isn't just about building robots, it also integrates reading, writing, and public speaking skills. Through the program, students get to apply math and science knowledge, solve problems, make decisions, communicate complex ideas, collaborate as part of a team, exercise leadership, manage resources, create and execute business plans - all essential skills in any successful technological enterprise.

By donating to this project, you have the opportunity to motivate a group of students while encouraging the exploration of math and science as part of this unique learning opportunity.

A robotics team will facilitate the development of interpersonal communication skills for all students, particularly English Language Learners, while students solve real-world challenges.
