Math, Science, and Literacy Synthesis Using Technology

My students need 2 iPads and cases, 6 iPad compatible wireless keyboards, 9 headphones, Apple TV with HDMI cable, and a colored printer with ink to present their work.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Bonivi's classroom raised $1,978

This project is fully funded

My Students

The Incredibles love using technology. They created movies, collages, and more to synthesize their learning in all subjects, including science and math. However, we only have 4 iPads and 4 computers for 23 students. Imagine having to share the iPad with 2 other people and completing your work.

"Where are the Incredibles?" "We are here Mrs./Mr. ______!" This is what I use to get their attention.

It reminds them everyday who they are and who they are expected to be--an incredible person. The Incredibles are eager to learn and be successful, despite their backgrounds. Our small, urban elementary school has 94% free and reduced lunch, which means that a majority of our students are from low income backgrounds. Additionally, there are 24 languages spoken in the school and 56% of our students receive English Language Learner support, which means that they haven't passed the English proficiency test. This makes learning all subjects difficult, including math because they cannot easily understand the directions and the word problems. If you ask the Incredibles to imagine their adult lives, you will be happy to hear that they have big dreams and that they hope to make a positive contribution to our world. They understand that they have a responsibility to others.

My Project

The 2 iPads will allow us to have a total of 6 iPads per group when we use them for math stations. Math stations have different activities such as the following: 1) create a movie teaching how to round to the nearest ten/hundred. 2) create a poster teaching how to add/subtract with regrouping. 3) create a collage of your favorite multiplication facts with pictures. 4) create a comic book showing a word problem (+, -,x, division). We will also use the iPads and its accompanying accessories during science (summarize your learning of rocks and minerals using iMovie or Educreations), literacy (create a movie trailer to summarize your book), social studies (create a keynote to teach others about one PNW native American tribe). We will use the Apple TV to share our work with everyone. We will use the printer to print our work so that we can display them outside of the classroom. We will be using iPads for higher order thinking such as analysis, synthesis, and creation!

More Incredibles will be able to learn and synthesize their learning than ever before.

Technology use is highly engaging and even the most difficult student or uninterested student will be engaged and learn! The Incredibles love sharing time because they love to show what they have accomplished. It's hard to share with everyone when you're all trying to view a small screen. With the Apple TV, sharing will improve. I think the problem will be that everyone will want to share at once!
