Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 30 4th graders in a title 1 New York City Department of Education school. Although many believe The Bronx is the toughest borough to teach in, I believe it's the most rewarding. I am truly lucky to teach them both grade 4 standards and life lessons. As a product of the same school district they truly resonate with my childhood anecdotes.
Many of my students come from single parent households.
Many of those parents whom work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Their families work hard to provide their children with the school uniform and the grade 4 supply list. Education is of key value to my families, many of whom have migrated to the United States for a better life.
My families already go above and beyond to work collaboratively to meet their child's academic and social emotional development. I'd like to go the rest of the school year without asking for financial support within my classroom.
My Project
These materials will help me create math centers that are long lasting. I will also be able to organize them in a way that minimizes transition time and extends learning time!
The laminating sheets are super thick which makes the centers last a long time and they do not stick together!
The photo organizer allows me to hold 16 different centers at a time! That's 16 Common Core standards that students can practice during rotations to meet the needs of my diverse learners.
The book cases are to hold my students math folders in the math area in an orderly fashion.
