My students are from varied ethnic backgrounds. Many of my kids deal with the realities of poverty, homelessness, and crime-infested communities. In my eyes, my students are gems that have developed unique survival skills reminiscent only of children that grow up in the poorest urban communities where survival is key.
Ultimately, my students desire to be successful.
Some dream of becoming an educator themselves, an architect, a doctor, or to take on the entertainment scene like many of the young artists they admire. My students are amazingly creative, insightful and genuinely funny. I admire the resilience of my students and their ability to find humor where others may see darkness.
My students come to me with varied socio-emotional needs. They gravitate towards the structure that school offers within their somewhat complex lives.
I will be using the iPad and Apple Pen to write to solve math problems with my students during our remote instruction. Currently, I am solving problems on paper and then holding it up to my webcam so that students can view my solution on zoom.
Solving problems that my students can view in real-time will be really helpful for my students.
Using the iPad I will be able to mirror my screen (using an app) on the computer while I deliver a lesson on Zoom. My students benefit greatly when they receive direct instruction rather than an example of a worked problem.
I will need the Apple Pen in order to write on the iPad. The case is needed to keep the iPad secure and damage-free.
