My students need math flash cards to practice their facts with their families during "Family Fridays."

My Students
Memorizing math facts. . HOLY COW . . I remember how hard it was for me. There is a hole in our 2nd grade math curriculum: fluency in math facts. 3rd grade teachers say that students struggle when they are weak in math fact fluency. I want to plug the hole and involve the parents in the solution
We are a high poverty, wonderfully ethnically mixed K-2 rural school, with 5 classrooms of each grade.
We are diligently working to find our academic holes and finding solutions to fill them. Fact fluency is one of our holes. It is also important to invite families to our building and make them feel welcomed and comfortable.
My Project
Do you remember learning your math facts?? For some students it is automatic, but for others it is a challenging task. Having colorful sets of math flash cards that can be sorted for each number family will help students master each family. Using the flash cards during "Family Friday" activities with the students family will enhance the importance of the skill for the student and their parents.
Having my students successful in 3rd grade is my ultimate task.
Knowing that math fact fluency is a key to that success has inspired me to extend my efforts beyond the classroom and invite parents every week to be a part of their students success. Something as simple as math flash card practice can help them achieve their level of success.
