Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The almost 900 students at our school live in a low-income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day.

Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day to learn many new standards.

I look forward to giving my students many of the much-needed supplies this year by asking the generous donors of DonorsChoose.org to provide these supplies.

My Project

After reading Mrs. Mianowski’s Marvelous Math Take Home Bags, I was inspired to write a similar project for my upper grade students. Although she has lower grade students, I realize that my 5th grade students can absolutely use the same Power Pen resources she requested.

I would like a set of Power Pens from Lakeshore Learning, as well as the batteries needed to go in them, for my students to use at home to practice math skills.

Each week, I will select 4-5 students to take home this fun math activity to practice their problem solving skills. So many of my students do not have games and hands-on activities in their homes, so I would like to provide this small resource to my students .
