Help me give my students domino blocks, polyhedral dice, 120 floor-mat game, centimeter cubes, floor spots, and dry erase circles to have hands on manipulatives to learn math and STEAM.
I teach at a high poverty school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. Most of my students get weekend lunch bags. My students come from mostly single family households with hard working parents. Parents often don't have time, money, or energy to enhance their children's learning.
My students have eager young minds, like a sponge soaking up any knowledge, loving anything new and exciting they are exposed to, especially technology.
They love to learn. I can see their eyes light up with excitement and their smiling faces when they get to experiment with the world at their little finger tips. I want their learning experience to be rewarding and memorable to last a lifetime, creating lifetime learners.
My Project
We are working with larger numbers and abstract concepts for little 1st grade students. I am asking for manipulatives to enhance my students learning by giving them the hands on experience to count to those high numbers and to work with addition and subtraction to get the answer.
You will help build the bridge between the concrete hands on learning to the concrete addition and subtraction equations with larger numbers.
These materials will really support for them to see how the numbers grow when they add and how they shrink when they subtract. Additionally, they can work out the problems anywhere on the dry erase spots and are not limited to their desk. You will help me to give them the ability to roam the room to get the work done with all the manipulatives it takes for them to become 21st century mathematicians.
