This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a second grade, second year teacher. I noticed last year that my student benefitted from tactile tools to build understanding and make sense of what they’re doing.

All students want to succeed in all subjects.

They just need the tools to get there. Using these math tools, students will be able to manipulate each piece and build the groundwork in math.

In second grade students are learning place value skills while also learning addition and subtraction strategies. These math manipulatives will be used in math centers to build understanding on relationships with numbers. The paper in the cart is going to be used to demonstrate many thing in the classroom. One of the most important thing is modeling a math strategy by thinking aloud as I do it. Another example is modeling how to respond correctly to a book after reading it.
