Math Money Paychecks to Reward Attendance and Behavior

My students need 9 rewards and incentives, such as certificates, pencils, stickers, erasers and kickballs.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Caldas's classroom raised $319

This project is fully funded

Have you ever thought about how much money students are actually earning for each day that they attend school? My students calculated that they currently earn about $48 per hour while they are in school. A high school graduate will make on average over $300,000 more during the course of his or her working life than a high school dropout. My students calculated what this extra amount of money actually earns them for every hour they are in school from now until they graduate. I teach mathematics to about 60 seventh grade students who come from predominantly low income families from an urban environment. Many students have life issues that can make it challenging for them to even consistently attend school. However, I have realized that they are motivated by the idea that they are getting paid to be in school, so I have implemented a Math Money Paycheck system in my classroom. Each day students earn $10 for showing up prepared and on-time. Based on their behavior from the day, they can earn bonuses or deductions from their paycheck. If students are not present in my class, then they cannot earn their wages for that day. Then students receive their Math Money Paycheck every two weeks. In order to teach some life skills, students have a check register where they keep track of their checking account balance and they are able to write checks to me to purchase prizes and rewards based on their checking account balance. That is where you come in. My students need prizes and rewards that will motivate them and help them buy into the Math Money Paycheck system. My students are very excited about their paychecks and I want to ensure they are rewarded for their attendance and behavior. I am requesting small rewards like pencils, erasers, sports balls, stickers and certificates. I will set Math Money prices for each of these items and then students will be able to write me a check to buy the item that they want. Your support will help to teach my students life-long money skills as well as to motivate them to come to school and learn daily so that they will be prepared for high school and college. Thank you for considering investing in my students.
