it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In today’s world, the ability to think critically, collaborate effectively, and engage deeply with the material is more important than ever. With this project, I aim to transform my classroom into a dynamic "Thinking Classroom" where students are not just passive receivers of information but active participants in their learning journey. By integrating hands-on math manipulatives and fostering a collaborative environment, I will empower my students to solve problems, engage in thoughtful discussions, and strengthen their critical thinking skills.
The heart of this initiative is to move beyond traditional teaching methods.
With the use of manipulatives, students can visualize abstract mathematical concepts, develop deeper understanding through interactive learning, and collaborate with peers to tackle complex problems. This hands-on, minds-on approach will encourage students to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and work together as a team to explore mathematical concepts in an engaging way.
To further facilitate collaboration and discussion, I plan to incorporate small mobile rolling whiteboards into the classroom. These portable boards will allow students to brainstorm, jot down ideas, and work through problems in small groups—encouraging real-time collaboration and making learning more interactive. The mobile whiteboards give students the freedom to move, share ideas, and discuss solutions with their peers while ensuring that every student has a chance to contribute and visualize their thinking.
This project will not only enhance students’ math skills but will also instill in them the value of collaboration, persistence, and problem-solving—skills that are critical to success in school and beyond.
