Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students first language is Spanish. Although they are proficient in English the language barrier can often get in the way of learning. When it comes to math, what better way to insure they understand and are able to apply the concepts then physically teaching them.
My students are eager learners that have developed an appreciation for math.
They are 28 very different personalities that make up a great team. My school is located in a urban city north of Chicago, Illinois. This group of funny personalities likes to have choices when learning math. I try to equip them with many strategies for performing one task. They are maturing and enjoy opportunities to work with groups independently.
My Project
My plan is to create a math workshop with centers for students to work in small groups. The items I am requesting will allow for me to do so by providing them with materials that can be differentiated and used with a multitude of math concepts. These items are also hands-on which supports best teaching strategies. It will also boost my students confidence by giving students ownership of their work.
My school is big on collaborating.
I teach with a team of 4 other teachers and together we service 112 students. By donating to my cause you can impact 112 students each year I utilize these materials. I teach in a district where 90% are low income families and education is their ticket out of poverty for their entire family. Please help me be the best teacher I can be by providing more opportunities for student success in mastering math skills.
