My Students
"I love Math!" That is what I want to hear my nineteen students say when we complete our math work and activities. Math is such an important part of learning, but we currently lack some of the resources that will make it memorable and meaningful.
I am currently teaching Kindergarten to 19 children that are excited about learning.
They are very sweet and have a strong desire to learn. I come from a low socio-economic school that lacks support from some of the parents. When some of my students entered Kindergarten, they had never been to preschool and some had never been in an environment with children other than their siblings. Most of my students did not know any letters or numbers, could not write their name, and had never used glue or scissors.
It is very important for Kindergarteners to have hands-on materials to enrich their learning experience. Their attention spans are not meant to sit on a rug and listen to a lecture. The best way for Kindergarteners to learn is to have interaction with their subject and get involved. The children get so excited and are ready to learn when they have opportunities for hands-on activities.
My Project
I am asking for different Math manipulatives to enhance the learning of my wonderful students. We are in need of tape measures, pattern activity cards, number counting activity, magnetic counters, and match-up activities that deal with shapes, patterns, counting, and addition. These manipulatives will be beneficial and meaningful for the children. I am also asking for a calendar activity pocket chart. We will use this every morning to practice calendar, counting, estimation, patterning, and problem solving skills. This chart will make our morning rug time fun and interactive. It would be a dream come true!
