This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a coach on the west side of Chicago to a wonderful bunch of students. My students enjoy reading and writing with creativity and spending time problem solving in math problems. Our school is a Title I school and often my school and students lack the ability to purchase the items we need in our classroom.
They are inquisitive and hardworking with a growing love of learning!
Primary is the best because we are just starting our adventure in education and building the foundation for the rest of their lives.
My Project
Our second grade students are in need of more practice with their fluency skills. Our goal is that all 2nd grade students met the Common Core standard of adding and and subtracting within 100 by the end of the school year. The materials from this project include engaging activities to practicing adding and subtracting, manipulatives like base ten blocks, number cards, counters, and a teachers guide.
Fluency skills will build their confidence and provide them with the ability to access more complex, challenging math problems.
Once our students have their fluency at grade level they will be able to soar as mathematicians this year and beyond.
