This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am an energetic kindergarten teacher that has just transferred to a new school. This school has a population of low-income families. Most students do not have any number sense skills, poor vocabulary, and limited fine motor skills. There are many students that are attending school for the first time because no preschool was provided. My students are sweet and very loving. I want to do my very best to teach them math in a fun way. Hopefully, this will make them want to learn and keep a positive attitude towards school.
We do not have textbooks to use for math. Everything I use must be made by me because all of the funds are locked due to budget cuts. This takes time and supplies that I do not have. I have been purchasing class supplies and making things to use to teach math. These hand-made things have been working, but do not last. I need some items to use that are sturdy. With a new baby, my time and money are now limited.
The resources that I would like you to purchase will help my student master counting from 1 - 30, learn number sense, identify patterns, and compare sizes of objects. I will also use colored tiles to teach them the "teen" numbers. These numbers are hard numbers for Kindergarteners to grasp.
My class needs your help to be successful. We are running out of options. With Christmas right around the corner, wouldn't it be a great gift to donate to donorschoose.org to our class in honor of a friend or family member? It would be a great gift that keeps on giving! Thanks for your help! We look forward to hearing from you soon.
