This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of my fourth grade students come from low income single parent homes. Unfortunately, many of the parents are uneducated and not able to help their children develop reading skills. On the first day of school, more than 90% of the students that entered my classroom were not reading at a third grade level and could not solve basic math facts. These students are hard working and goal oriented, they just need reading and math material that will help them to develop the skills they need in order to achieve their academic goals.
My Project
My students need differentiated instruction to reach their personal math goals. I am asking for Superhero Punch Cards that students can use to track their effort and achievement, while working in a small math group. Student will receive a punch on their card each time they reach a goal. After the punch card is complete, students will receive a prize. This will help students feel rewarded both intrinsically and extrinsically.
I will use the Fellowes Desktop Reference Rack to track students' achievement through data.
Also, the File Folder Pocket Chart will help keep differentiated lessons organized by each group. I will plan for lessons based on the math needs of students.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
