Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty succeeding in school. My classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities and other Health Impairments.
Most struggle with basic concepts that they may have missed out on in previous years of school due to many different reasons; moving from school to school, living with different parents at different times of the school year, missing too many days of school, sickness or just the simple fact that they don't believe in themselves enough to learn.
Some of my students come to school to learn, others come to school to be loved.
My Project
My students need games and activities that focus on the pre-algebra concepts. Our students will use these games, speakers, and flash cards to explore their ability through playing games while learning new concepts or for review. They will be able to use these games and activities during work time or after work is complete for reiteration.
At times, students forget they are "learning" while playing games, they really get into playing and want to win!
