This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live in the downtown area of our community. Based on the demographics in this area, my Title I school provides free breakfast for all of our students. They are sweet, funny, curious youngsters who come from loving homes. They are entrusted to my care each day and my greatest desire is to make learning a fun and interactive experience for them. The foundation for their love of learning is still being built and I want it to be strong!

My Project

My students will be able to expand and build on their number sense during small group instruction and math centers through the use of the math talks, number strings, and ten frame cards included in the hand2mind kit. The teacher guide, demonstration Rekenrek and anchor charts will help me when I am working with small groups of students during math intervention block. They all want to see what I am teaching them and these tools will make that easier. My students need lots of practice counting on, counting back, subitizing, and counting by fives and tens. They also need to be able to write and draw about their solutions and how they arrived at their solution. The dry erase markers, pockets, pencils and journals with a space for drawing will enable them to express their ideas through writing and drawing.
